Aristarchus is the crater in the middle of the image with the bright wall on the east side awash with sunlight. Note the rays radiating outward from the crater. Aristarchus is 40 miles in diameter and 1.7 miles deep. The light color material on the east wall of the crater is some of the brightest material on the Moon. The meandering valley to the upper left of the crater is called Vallis Schröteri. |
